February 2014 – Initial site preparation activities, slated to begin early March, will include careful clearing and grading of the construction site. Additionally, the construction team will begin implementation of the project’s tree removal and protection plan that was developed in collaboration with the City of Palo Alto as part of the approval process.
Significant effort has been made to protect trees that do not need to be removed and to transplant affected trees wherever possible. The footprint of the new building was designed to protect the grand historic oak that sits between the existing House and the expansion property. Transplanted trees will be used to improve visual screening from the roadway and rear of the property and will create a complementary layering effect with subsequent landscape materials.
