Installation of the Shoring System for the Podium Deck
January 2015 – Upon completion of the basement walls and basement slab in December, Vance Brown started the installation of the shoring system for the podium deck (ground level). This system supports the forms that hold the reinforcing steel, tendons, and concrete for the podium deck. The deck is a post-tensioned concrete deck: the tendons are stressed (i.e., tensioned or pulled) to a specific strength determined by the structural engineers after concrete is poured.
Unfortunately, prior to installing the tendons, the project’s special inspector reported that the sample tendons did not meet the criteria of the specifications. New tendons were ordered and will need to be tested. Once the results return, Vance Brown will install the tendons and then proceed with the deck pour. The date is February 12th.
